About Shellie

I've always enjoyed taking photos although photography wasn't ever a really huge interest until 2012. I took a trip to India, and there were so many stunning sights to see I thought (and still do!) that my dream job would be to get a really good camera and travel around India taking photos of people (who are extremely friendly!), and temples, and especially the sweet little street shrines (as I call them), small altars sprinkled all over the landscape.

While in India, the camera I used was a Canon Power Shot A590, a very sweet little point-and-shoot with a nice selection of pre-sets as well as manual options. It did well enough, I certainly can't complain, but I became interested in micro/macro photography in June of 2013, and there is no way to add a lens to the Canon.

My son did the homework for me and came up with this wonderful set that included the Nikon D3200 camera with lens, a nice backpack, and a plethera of accessories like battery charger, cleaning kits, lens hood, UV filter, a couple of other things I think. His comment was "You'll grow into it."

I didn't want to invest in an expensive macro lens yet, but again my son came up with a neat interim solution of a set of add-on magnifiers in a set from Polaroid. There are four lenses that screw onto the camera lens, a 1X, 2X, 4X and 10X. The only drawback is that I have to get Very Close to the subject to get it into focus, so any moving object does not work well. However, it works great for nature items like moss, flowers, any still subject.
